Do the community rules work for your pet? Check pet limits, size or breed restrictions, fees and rules for shared spaces before you fall in love with a home.

Will walks, playtime and potty breaks fit naturally into your day? Look at nearby walking routes, outdoor space and how easy it is to get out the door with your pet.

Will this home still work as your pet gets older? Think about stairs, slippery floors and whether they could comfortably reach the places they use every day.

If there’s a yard, are the fence and gates secure? Check doors, balconies and nearby traffic too—especially if your pet is small or has a talent for slipping away.

Think about hot pavement, shade and storm season. Is there a comfortable daily routine for your pet, and a plan for where you’ll go together if you need to evacuate?
